Historical Overview
The Undergraduate International Studies Program was established in 1943, one year after the Pearl Harbor invasion, at a time when the world’s future was precarious. The objective of International Studies was to dedicate teaching, research, and understanding in order to prepare students to guide the United States as it emerged from decades of isolationism. Armed with cultural and international knowledge, OSU equipped students to aid the United States in performing its new role as political and economic superpower in a devastated world.
