INTSTDS 3400: The Analysis and Display of Data

Introduction to the analysis of data. Topics include sampling, data collection, probability, inference, random variables, display of data, correlation, and analysis of variance. This course does not count toward a course elective for Econ majors.
Prereq: Not open to students with credit for Econ 4400 (444), 5410 (641), 5420 (642), 3400 (443), Stat 1430 (133), 1450 (145), 2450 (245) or AEDEcon 2005 (205). GE data anly course. Cross-listed in Econ.

This course provides students with an introduction to the steps and methods involved in gathering, presenting, analyzing and interpreting different forms of data. Students will develop an understanding of how to critically evaluate the validity of statistical arguments, numerical and/or graphical, and will learn how to properly collect, analyze and present data, and grasp the methods and roles of descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The course encourages students to become competent consumers of statistical information and techniques by learning both their strengths and weaknesses.
Students will be using a free program called RStudio.  All activities that involve the use of RStudio will include detailed instructions on how to download, install and use the free program.
