Alumni Spotlight: Mason Liles

Mason graduated in 2012 from the Undergraduate International Studies Program. He completed a degree in International Relations and Diplomacy and also studied Arabic. Mason is pictured left at the EF Education First offices in Riyadh, where he worked alongside a fellow International Studies alum, Sophie Seidner (Middle East Studies, ’13).

“I received my BA in International Studies in June of 2012. I also studied Arabic for 3 years. Both of these wonderful opportunities provided me with the tools to receive a position at the Saudi Arabian Embassy’s Cultural Mission to the United States. I worked with them from the summer of 2012 until November 2013 as their regional coordinator of ESL programs (at the time, they had roughly 30,000 students in ESL programs across the USA).

Afterward, I took a position with an international education company, EF Education First. I was transferred to their offices in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from May 2014 to May 2016, where I negotiated government contracts and managed projects (we frequently provide English language training to Saudi government employees).

In June 2016, I returned to the United States to take on a new position, Director of Government Affairs for EF’s International Language Centers division. I now handle all of our embassy relations here in Washington, D.C., which fits so perfectly with my field of study! I have been so blessed with the opportunity to pursue travel, diplomacy, and cultural exchanges, and these opportunities all stem from my studies at The Ohio State University.”
