Join the Center for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies for a special guest lecture with Jeffrey Giauque, former Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Minsk, Belarus.
Giauque, alumnus of the Ohio State University’s Department of History, was made the Chargé d’Affaires in 2020 and was responsible for representing the U.S. in the Republic of Belarus, conducting the Foreign Policy of the U.S. as well as directing, coordinating and supervising the Embassy personnel under his authority. Prior to his service in Belarus, he also held postings in Turkmenistan, Croatia, and Serbia.
He received his BA in history and French from the University of Utah and his MA and PhD from Ohio State in European international history and the history of American foreign relations. Giauque’s doctoral dissertation focused on the European Economic Community (predecessor of the European Union) and he has taught courses on European history and international relations at Miami University.
During his lecture, Giauque will talk about his experiences in the Foreign Service, both insights and challenges to consider for students who are interested in diplomatic careers, and his observations from years of experience serving in the East European and Eurasian region. Following his talk there will be time for Q&A with members of the audience. We strongly encourage undergraduate and graduate students interested in the field of international relations to attend this event.
