All International Students students are encouraged pursue an internship during the course of their studies. Whether for academic credit or not, internships provide valuable real-world experience and make a great addition to your resume.
International Studies students have secured internships with organizations such at the the U.S. Department of State (including embassies around the world), CIA, NSA, FBI, and other national and international agencies, as well as with local organizations within Columbus.
There are no shortage of internship opportunities, and as you begin your search be sure to consider:
- Is the internship paid or unpaid?
- Is the internship full-time or part-time?
- Is the internship during the summer or school year?
- Do you meet the application requirements (examples are GPA, particular major)?
- Are there travel costs involved?
- Are there fees involved (ex. interning abroad through a study abroad provider)?
- Does the internship organization assist interns with housing?
- Will participating in the internship delay your graduation?
- Are you required to be enrolled for credit during the internship?
- How long is the internship?
- Is security clearance required (the security clearance process can add 8-12 months to the application process)?
- Do you need to be a U.S. Citizen?
