While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. An image of Elena Akers

Elena Akers, a third-year International Studies and German double major, has been selected as one of Ohio State's Sesquicentennial Scholars. Elena is one of 150 outstanding students who share an extraordinary passion for the university and will participate in a special leadership program as part of Ohio State's 150th anniversary next academic year. Through the Sesquicentennial Scholars Program, Elena will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship while building the skills and fortitude essential to becoming an engaged citizen through leadership development and ambassador opportunities. The sesquicentennial scholars come from 5 continents, 9 countries, 22 states in the U.S. and 42 counties across Ohio and represent every campus and college in the university. Most importantly, their Buckeye passion brings them together to drive the land-grant mission to improve the well-being of our communities forward. Congratulations, Elena!
