Beginning Autumn 2017, there will be an active chapter of the International Studies honorary, Sigma Iota Rho, on the Ohio State campus. This development comes at the same time that International Studies students are showing a heightened interest in doing research as part of their undergraduate experience. What students are often not aware of, however, is that there are undergraduate-specific publication outlets for their research, and these journals reach a wide national audience. This post is intended to alert IS majors to one such outlet, the once-yearly journal of Sigma Iota Rho, Journal of International Relations. There are numerous other, equally prestigious outlets, including Hemispheres: The Tufts University Journal of International Affairs, the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Journal of Undergraduate International Studies, and the University of Southern California’s Southern California International Review. All of these journals accept papers from students at colleges and universities across the country.

Publication in these journals is competitive in that papers are reviewed anonymously for suitability and quality. As a result, not all papers submitted are accepted for publication so that success is both a major source of self-satisfaction and a valuable credential as you pursue a career after graduation. You are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to “get your name in print.”
